The best product studios for a business owner who wants an app built and handed over
The best product studio for a business owner fixes the price before it builds, puts the code in your name and leaves you able to run what it built. Designli builds for non-technical founders with a 90-day program and publishes MVP bands from $10,000; Purrweb fixes an MVP estimate after a paid discovery sprint; Chop Dawg works on fixed monthly budgets and hands over a complete package at launch; Rocket Farm Studios hardens apps started in Lovable, Bolt or Replit. thoughtbot and Goji Labs suit companies with larger teams or budgets, and Altar.io builds from Lisbon. We, Modern Mustard Seed, publish this guide and run Idea to Product in four set packages, from a build plan to a full hand off. Of the seven other studios here, five state on their own pages that the code is yours. Every fact below was read from each studio's own site on October 26, 2026.

Designli
A Greenville, South Carolina studio, with a presence in Dallas and San Francisco, that "helps non-technical founders turn software into real, revenue-generating businesses" through TractionLab, a 90-day program aimed at a real user by Day 30.
Strengths
- "Everything Designli builds is yours to keep," and you can cancel on 30 days' notice.
- The first two weeks are refundable, and if V1 is not with real users by Day 30, the next month is free.
- Takes on apps started with AI coding tools: it assesses the code, hardens what is worth keeping and builds on it.
Watch for
- TractionLab is priced from scope on a discovery call and the figure is not published.
- After launch the default is a continuing monthly team, priced by team size and stage.
PriceMVP bands on its own page: $10,000 to $50,000 basic, $50,000 to $150,000 moderate, $150,000 to $400,000 or more complex. Impact Week audit $1,700. TractionLab and monthly pods not published.
Purrweb
A design and development company with offices in Walnut, California and Ras Al Khaimah, UAE and a productized MVP offer. Its MVP page says most of its MVP founders "do not have a technical background, and the product still ships."
Strengths
- "Clients own the codebase from the first commit," per Purrweb.
- A typical MVP takes 3 to 4 months from signed contract to App Store submission, with the same team throughout.
- Hands the project to an in-house team with documentation, a UI kit and onboarding meetings.
Watch for
- The fixed estimate comes only after a paid discovery sprint of 1 to 2 weeks, whose price is not published.
- The same page gives three MVP figures; ask which applies before you pay for discovery.
PriceMVP page: $25,000 to $40,000 in the headline, about $45,000 in its price block, $30,000 to $80,000 in its FAQ. Clickable prototype $5,000 to $15,000.

Chop Dawg
A Philadelphia-headquartered app studio, building since 2009 and fully remote, that designs, builds and maintains iOS, Android and web apps "with fixed-monthly budgets, precise timelines, and a dedicated partner."
Strengths
- You own the source code, designs, documentation and IP, built inside your own accounts.
- One complete handoff package at launch: repositories, docs, admin credentials and deployment instructions.
- A free 30-day post-launch warranty and bug-fix period.
Watch for
- Changes are free within the month or a 15-day grace period; past that, extra time bills at the monthly rate.
- Ownership has one stated exception: an unresolved payment issue.
- Its FAQ says most clients budget $2,500 to $5,000 a month for maintenance.
PriceMVP, mobile and web builds start at $7.5K a month for 1 to 4 months; AI features from $10K a month; maintenance from $2.5K a month. Its FAQ puts most MVPs at $25,000 to $50,000.
Rocket Farm Studios
A Boston-area AI-native product studio in Needham, Massachusetts, building since 2008. Its From Vibe to MVP track audits code from Cursor, Replit, Lovable, v0 or Bolt and hardens what is solid.
Strengths
- "All code, IP & assets are yours," with source, documentation and design assets handed over.
- MVP tiers from 4 to 6 weeks for a focused single-workflow app to 12 to 20 weeks for a platform.
- All work in-house with no subcontractors, and artifacts in your accounts from the first commit.
Watch for
- MVP tier prices are not published; numbers come after a scoping conversation.
- Its Prototype Sprint is 3 weeks on the homepage and 3 to 6 weeks on its About page.
PriceAI prototype sprint $15K to $25K; a full AI-native build of 12 to 16 weeks $250K to $500K. MVP tiers not published.
Modern Mustard Seed(that's us)
That's us. We are an AI product studio for operators who already run something that works. Idea to Product runs in four set packages: Scope and Sequence (a specified, sequenced build plan), Build and Ship (the product in front of real users), Launch (to market with the system around it) and Hand Off (the asset, the access and the operating knowledge transferred to you).
Strengths
- One written scope and one set package price before anything is built, and changes to what we built are included with no change order.
- Standard code in accounts in your name: the repository, the deployment, the domain and every account.
- We run it for you after launch, or hand it off with the runbook whenever you are ready.
Watch for
- Two people and a crew of agents, so we take a limited number of builds at a time.
- No published price; we quote a set package after a discovery call.

thoughtbot
A senior product strategy, design and development consultancy, remote across the Americas, Europe, West Asia and Africa, that builds and modernizes software "where reliability, compliance, and long-term maintainability matter as much as speed."
Strengths
- Takes in AI-generated or self-built prototypes, keeps what works and builds production-ready software.
- A discovery sprint can produce a roadmap in as little as 2 weeks.
- Aims to leave your team able to maintain the product after the engagement.
Watch for
- No published price; senior staff join for a flexible length of time, so ask for the team's cost in writing.
- The MVP pitch assumes a team of yours to embed with and upskill; code ownership terms are not stated on the pages we read.
PriceNot published. Every page leads to a project questionnaire.
Goji Labs
A strategy-led product agency headquartered in Los Angeles that designs and builds AI products, custom software and mobile and web apps for enterprise teams, private equity-backed companies and startups.
Strengths
- "The client owns all code, designs, and intellectual property delivered," under its standard terms.
- Defined-scope projects, retainers, strategy sprints of 2 to 4 weeks, or dedicated teams.
- Many clients ship the first version with Goji, then move it to an internal team.
Watch for
- Most work bills at an unpublished blended rate; fixed fees are offered for tightly scoped audits and sprints.
- Post-launch bugs in its own work are covered for the first week; after that, maintenance hours apply.
PriceEngagements typically run $50,000 to $1,000,000, per its FAQ.
Read from
Altar.io
A Lisbon product studio run by former founders that scopes, designs and builds MVPs and custom software, starting each build on its reusable Seed codebase, which it says covers about half the code.
Strengths
- "We partner like co-founders," per Altar.io, with the same in-house team from start to finish.
- Publishes nine recent project prices so you can see how cost varies.
- Modules are delivered for testing as they finish, with codebase documentation.
Watch for
- Ownership and licensing of its reusable Seed modules after handover are not stated on the pages we read.
- Its MVP page gives Product Scope as 7 days in one place and 15 days in another.
PriceNo packages. Recent projects on its pricing page ran from 18k to 350k euros; its two MVP examples were 40k euros over 3 months and 100k euros over 2 months.
- We read each studio's own homepage, MVP or services page, pricing page and FAQ on October 26, 2026, and list only what they publish, including where their own pages disagree.
- We sorted by the owner each studio fits, from non-technical founders to funded companies with their own engineers. The order is not a score.
- We judged on what an owner should know before signing: whether the price is fixed before work starts, who owns the code, what happens to changes, and how the product is handed over.
- Modern Mustard Seed wrote this guide and builds products for owners. We are on the list, we say so, and every option gets the same space.

Book a Discovery CallCommon questions
What is the best product studio for a non-technical business owner?
+
One that fixes the price before it builds, puts the code in your name and hands it over in a state you can run. On those terms: Designli for a 90-day program for non-technical founders, Purrweb for a fixed MVP estimate, Chop Dawg for fixed monthly budgets and a complete handoff, Rocket Farm Studios to harden an app you started yourself, and Modern Mustard Seed for set package prices from plan to hand off.
How much does it cost to have a studio build an app?
+
Published on October 26, 2026: Designli MVPs from $10,000 to $50,000 for a basic build, Chop Dawg most MVPs $25,000 to $50,000, Purrweb $25,000 to $80,000 depending on the figure on its page, Rocket Farm Studios $15K to $25K for an AI prototype sprint, Goji Labs $50,000 to $1,000,000, and Altar.io recent projects from 18k to 350k euros. thoughtbot publishes no price. Modern Mustard Seed quotes a set package price after a discovery call.
Will I own the code a product studio writes?
+
Ask for it in writing. Designli, Purrweb, Chop Dawg, Rocket Farm Studios and Goji Labs state on their own pages that you own the code; thoughtbot and Altar.io do not state ownership terms on the pages we read. With Modern Mustard Seed, the repository, deployment, domain and every account are in your name.
Can a studio take over an app I started with Lovable, Bolt or Replit?
+
Yes. Rocket Farm Studios runs a From Vibe to MVP track for exactly that, and Designli and thoughtbot say they assess what you built and keep what works. Modern Mustard Seed reads your prototype as the spec and agrees a set package price before anything is rebuilt.
