Problem

Service businesses lose money every time the phone rings and no one picks up. After hours, lunch breaks, three calls at once. Each missed call is a missed customer, and the customer never calls back. The average small business misses 25 to 40 percent of its inbound calls. That is not a service problem. That is a coverage problem.

The existing "voice AI" market mostly sounds like a 2009 IVR system pretending to be friendly. Customers can tell. They hang up.

Build

VoiceStaff is a production voice agent platform that gives service businesses 24/7 phone coverage with an AI that actually sounds human. Pick up calls, qualify leads, book appointments, transfer when needed, send a transcript and summary to the owner every morning.

Built on Vapi for the voice infrastructure, Next.js for the operator dashboard, Supabase for state and call history, Anthropic Claude for the reasoning layer, and Trigger.dev for the post-call workflow. Each deployment is configured per business: greeting, intent map, function tools (booking, transfer, capture), guardrails, voice selection.

Onboarding is days, not months. Most businesses are live on a real phone number within a week.

Outcome

A small service business that used to lose 30 percent of its calls now answers 100 percent. The owner gets a daily inbox of transcripts and summaries instead of a list of voicemails. The revenue that was leaking out the bottom of the funnel stays in.

Stack

Vapi for voice, Next.js for the operator surface, Supabase for state, Anthropic Claude for the reasoning, Trigger.dev for the post-call workflow, Vercel for the deploy. Standard MMS stack with voice infra layered on top.

What this is, generally

A working example of a specialty AI tool that is its own SaaS product, not a one-off engagement. The same pattern works for any business surface where the bottleneck is human availability: phone, chat, email triage, inbound forms. Voice is the most visible version of the pattern. It is not the only version.
