Connector builds / For nonprofit and donation software

Know your donors by asking.

A Claude or ChatGPT connector for nonprofit and donation software lets an executive director or development lead ask how a campaign is tracking against goal, who gave for the first time, who gave last year and not this year, and which recurring gifts failed. Those are reads, and a read-only first version is a strong, honest start. Drafting thank-you notes comes next, behind a yes. No tool ever moves money. Givebutter already ships an official remote MCP server for Claude and ChatGPT.

Nine of our tools are listed in Anthropic’s Claude directory.

What your customers would ask

The jobs they would do in Claude.

Reads answer at once. Anything that changes data drafts first and waits for a yes. Tool names here are illustrative: yours map to the real endpoints in your API docs.

How is the spring campaign tracking against goal, and who gave for the first time?

  1. get_campaignRead only

  2. list_donationsRead only

The board update, in one answer, from the giving data itself.

Who gave last year and has not given this year?

  1. list_donorsRead only

The lapsed-donor list most small development teams rebuild by hand every fall.

Which monthly gifts failed their last charge?

  1. list_recurring_plansRead only

A read of status. Fixing the card is the donor’s step, in your product.

Draft thank-you notes for this week’s major gifts.

  1. list_donationsRead only

  2. draft_thank_youWrite, held

  3. confirm_actionApproval step

Drafts are saved for a person to review and send; nothing reaches a donor without a yes.

Design notes for this category

What I design around in giving.

Donor data is trusted data. The calls I make up front:

  • No money moves, ever. Anthropic’s review criteria do not accept connectors that transfer money or other financial assets, and that rule fits this category exactly: no tool donates, charges or refunds.
  • Reads first is a real product. If your API is read-only today, a read-only connector still answers the questions that fill a development director’s week, and it passes review with nothing held for approval.
  • Donor privacy, written down. The privacy page names every category of personal data the connector reads, and tools return totals and lists rather than full donor records unless the question needs them.
  • Roles matter. A board member and a development lead should not see the same detail, and OAuth scopes follow the roles your product already has.

Church giving and management

For church giving, the same rules.

Church platforms carry the same donor data plus attendance and groups. Planning Center already has an MCP server published in the official MCP Registry, so congregations are starting to ask the same questions from inside an assistant. The design rules above apply unchanged, and our own Bible and Church Year connectors for Cross + Covenant are on Built for Claude if you want to see how we handle church-facing tools.

The category is moving

Already in the assistants in your category.

These companies publish official MCP servers today. Each line is read from the company’s own page, linked.

The package that fits

Connector Build

One giving platform is a Connector Build, and a read-only first version is a complete one. If your team wants to build it, Connector Blueprint hands them the design.

Your customers do their real work in your product from inside the assistant they already use. Set scope, set price, quoted in the conversation, and changes to what we built are included.

Straight answers

What teams ask next.

Our API is read-only. Is a connector still worth it?

Yes. The questions development staff ask most are reads: totals, trends, lapsed donors, failed recurring gifts. A read-only connector answers all of them, and write tools can follow when your API adds them.

Could a donor give through Claude?

Not through the connector. Anthropic’s directory does not accept connectors that transfer money. The connector can share your donation page link; the gift happens on your page.

How is donor data protected?

Each user signs in with their own account and sees only what that account sees in your product. Tools return what the question needs, and the privacy page lists every category of data involved.

Send me your API docs.

Tell me your product and where your API reference lives. I will come back with the jobs your customers would do in Claude and ChatGPT, the tools I would build, and the package that fits. Managed for you, end to end, and the code is yours.

Claude is a product of Anthropic, and ChatGPT is a product of OpenAI. Modern Mustard Seed is an independent studio and is not affiliated with or endorsed by either.
